Sonia, a Dominican widow, is forced to sell her lifelong home so she can move to a smaller apartment. Overwhelmed by this change, things start to look up when she meets Aimé, a Haitian worker from a neighboring construction site. Soon enough, Sonia and Aimé develop a romantic relationship that everyone in her life will fiercely oppose. Sonia must decide whether to follow her heart or succumb to the pressures of society.
